Advertising 2

On the 2072 Facebook page I made a competition to get people more involved and more hyped for the release of the film. The contest includes the question: "what do you ant to see in the future?" This was an appropriate question considering the nature and  themes of the film. We chose Facebook as we know it's one of the most popular websites on the Internet with 72% of web users having Facebook accounts. 82% of these users are between the ages of 18-29, roughly our demographic for the film.

Advertising

To advertise 2072 I printed off some posters and decided to stick them up around the collage. Since doing this views have gone up on the clips from 90 to 122. Here are the locations of the posters:

You can see, I put them in quite obvious palaces where many people will walk post and see them at eye level. This is what contributed to gaining more views on the video. Hopefully it will control nune to advertise the film.

Soundtrack

A soundtrack to any film is important, let alone an indie film. It adds to the atmosphere, and makes scenes 10X more dramatic. Take a film like 'Django Unchained' for example. The soundtrack is a mix of modern R&B and old county rock/blues. And an original score by Ennio Moriconne. Although being set in the 1850s the modern sounds really adds to the "awe" and "excitement" of the scenes. http://youtu.be/QbmDpEhAp48
For my soundtrack I would include:
-The Lautspechter - Ester
-Blade Runner blues - Vangalis
-Blade Runner end theme - Vangalis
-Hellraiser - Mötorhead
-Sweet Little Sister - Skid Row
-Snoke - John Williams
-Without You - Nilson
-Walking In My Shoes - Depeche Mode
-Rebal Rebal - David Bowie
This soundtrack is a mix of existing film soundtracks and pop/rock hits. This is an example of "The Frankenstein's Monster" film, as it is a mix of different films cut apart and sown back together to create something completely different. But I'll talk more about that in detail later.

Filming locations

For 2072 I wanted a really remote location where no one would be around. I also wanted it too look old and tattered as if no one had been there in years, and as if it had been evacuated. So for this I chose a 10th century church in Idsworth called, St Hubert's. It is an amazing location as it is centred dead in the middle of a huge field. Its surroundings are nothing but hills for miles and miles. Around the back of the church is a forest, just off the forest is a well that is as old as the church itself. I was unaware that the well had been cautioned off by barbed wire, but it diddnt manage to stop us from getting down there to film.

The second place we shot also needed to look abandoned, but a little more modern. The perfect place for this was Hordean Precintct. Small prescient of about 10 shops, 80% of which are closed down. This was the perfect accessible place to film this scene.

Lastly, to film scenes with Shawcross we went to London to use some of its settings there. We used, the bridge next to the BFI, the national gallery, and Leicester Square. This showed an alternate, juxtaposed life to that of Alistair, as there is a completely opposite atmosphere between them.

Posters

To advertise the movie, various posters are made at different points prior to the film release. Let's look at some of the posters for the upcoming film, Deadpool (2016) staring Ryan Reynolds.

In these posters we see the one character Humourously posing . Main things to notice:
-Positioning of character
-Background colour
-Tag line
-Film titled
-Release date
However, it's important not to get ahead of yourself with the advertising. Recently deadpool released a billboard which simply had two emojis and the letter L. 💀💩L. Of course it's supposed to be broken down as: Dead-Poo-l, however most people diddnt understand the reference and all of a sudden the hashtag: #skullpoopl was trending on social media. Of course in someways this did help advertise the film, and the star Ryan Reynolds went along with it and posted a very funny edit on his Twitter account.

So, when making a poster for 2072 I tried to add all the aspects from the deadpool posters as a template for what to add to my own.

In the posters above I used various different layouts. The most effective ones are the first and third due to the positioning of the title. The black and white goes with the theme of the film and is filtered with a pencil texture that I wanted to use to make look like the posters of Drew Struzan. And in some small way I think I got some element of his early designs in there.

The final poster I came up with, encorperates all things a poster should have: Actors, Hashtags, Title, Tagline, a release date, Reveiws and an awesome, filtered picture of one of the characters from the film.

Overall, I quite like the final poster, as it's simplistic, doesn't give too much away, and leaves some mystery into the film. The hashtag will let people be talking about it on social media, and make the hype build up. And the title is so large and short, people are bound to remeber it and talk about it.

Production: Story

The year is 2072. The majority of civilians of earth have been moved in colonies across 12 different quadrants of the Milky Way. They were moved during the great rebal uprising of 2045, 29 years after world war 3, (which marked the end of individual government systems in each country). The Rebels disagreed with the WLE's (world legislation enforcers) new cloning scheme; to have 1 clone per capita of the population so people could rest more, therefore work more productively when in action. However, some people abused the power of practucally having a slave. That is why a band of Rebels tried to over run the WLE. In 2061 the Rebels went to war with the WLE and were defeated magnificently. The Rebels were rounded up into death camps and killed within 24 hours of capture. Being a supporter of this group is therefore illegal. But 11 years have passed and to the remaining population of earth, sits in the back of their heads as a faint reminder of the strict, ruthless regime they live under.

The future to us is similar to the world we live today due to WW3 completely stopping production of fresh, new, groundbreaking recorces and technology; (although a branch of the WLE called NORTH STAR had been developing type 23 decomposing monopropellant multi-passenger shuttle for quadrant travel as well as nuclear warheads for future purposes). The majority of people left on earth live in London and major cities around the world. The country sides and most smaller LEDC countries have been completely deserted and abandoned, partly due to nuclear fallout. Although the world is under tight control it is still corrupt with various drug and arms gangs found all around the world.

This film follows the story of Alistair Barnes who is clone/slave to Sebastian Shawcross: a rebel disguised as a class 2 WLE London representative who is set on destroying the entire earth along with all its citizens to finally bring down the WLE so he can bring his own law and order to the Galaxy. To do this he needs the plans of a weapon so deadly it was hidden somewhere in earth by its designer Irving Hans Goldschmidt (CEO at NORTH STAR) who tried to flee to quadrant 7 but was accused of being a rebal and was sentenced to death. To find the plans he sends his clone, Alistair to find them. Shawcross believes Barnes is the best man for this job as he used to be a ruthless Metropolitan Guerrilla (the WLEs death squad/police) who was praised for his abilities of finding small rebal groups and executing them in unconventional yet civilised natures. Although this sounds like a completely unfair and unjust system, Metropolitian Guerrillas were fair and treated everyone equally (until evidence was filed against them of course) at the end of the day it was a job, and Alistair only did it because he was conforming to his social role. Near the end of the war received shrapnel from a homemade explosive to damage his head which caused bleeding in the temporal lobe. Because of this he lost all his long term memory and woke up 72 hours later with his owner Shawcross in his 10 bedroom mansion. However Alistair was not treated as a guest but more of a prisoner. To get in the WLE's good books, Shawcross used Alistair as a bounty hunter to elinate suspected Rebels and to collect information from rats scattered across the world. Alistair lost his name but instead was given the title, "The people's huntsman" or just "Huntsman". From then on he has been searching for the plans of the so called "End" bomb.

The film itself is about internal conflict and the stuggle between good and evil. It also shows the different view points of people and individuals ideologies. Shawcross is doing an evil thing but to him it's the right thing to do. This is understandable as the WLE are a dictatorship lead by the richest people in the galaxy and abuse their powers for their own benefit. The clip I will make will show Alistair find the plans but try to make the internal decision of handing them over or destroying them and running away. If he hands them over he'll die when the bomb goes off, if he doesn't he'll have Shawcross with the entire wrath of the WLE looking for him and will indefinitely destroy him.

Actors and Directors

Independent actors:

Lots of well know mainstream actors have independent films to thank for their rise to stardom. Take the 2008 indie film "The Hurt Locker". Jeremy Renner who was the main character was barely heard of before the film came out, but due to the overall success of the film he was nominated for both and Oscar and a BAFTA. Renner then was offered a bevy of various difference roles which he skilfully chose, such as Matt Damons replacement in the Bourne franchise, and Clint Barton (A.K.A Hawkeye) in the MARVEL cinematic universe; making himself a well know household name today.

Renner isn't the only actor who has started from indie films and made their way up to mainstream films.othe actors include: Jesse Eisenberg in "The Squid And The Whale", Ellen Page in "Juno", Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in "Good Will Hunting", Jake Gyllenhaal in "Donnie Darko", and Scarlett Johnson in "Gost World".

Of course it's not just actors that begin in the indiependant films, directors can also make there way up to the big productions. Take James June for example. He was originally a writer writting the screenplays and story's for such things as the 2002 live action Scooby Doo movie and it's 2004 sequal, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. But in 2006 started directing indie films. He first being "Slither" (2006) which was produced by Gold Cirle Films and Strike Entertainment. The second film he directed was also and idipendant film under the name of "Super" (2010) starting Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Nathan Fillion, and Kevin Bacon. This film was very stylised and unique in the way it was written an shot. So, in 2014 Gunn was Hired my MARVEL studio and Disney to direct the summer blockbuster "Guardians Of The Galaxy". This was a huge step up for him as he was now behind a $195.6 million project compared to a $2.5 million film such as "Super". In fact the film was so good it was voted #37 on IMDBs top 100 Sci Fi films of all time and won numerous awards (44) and was nominated for 2 Oscars. Gunn is set to return for writting and directing it's 2017 sequal' "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2". This is how lots of directors get talent spotted for their new, 'Indie' ideas.
